Providence’s Henton Named to Lute Olson Award Mid-Season Watch List
LaDontae Henton has been a player that has flown under the national radar much like his teammate Bryce Cotton did a season ago while leading Providence in scoring. Henton was recently left off the midseason watch list for the Wooden Award which was ranked as the #2 snub by Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Eisenberg. He was also only named to the 2nd Team of the Preseason All-Big East team which is something Ed Cooley has called “a joke” on more than one occasion. On Wednesday Henton got some recognition however by being named to the Lute Olson Award Mid-Season Watch List.
The Lute Olson Award has had Henton on their radar as he was named to the Lute Olson Preseason All-America Team prior to the season beginning in November. Henton joins 24 other players on the mid-season watch list which is made up of sophomores, juniors and seniors. Freshman are not eligible for the award. The finalists will be announced in March.
Henton is currently 6th in the nation in scoring and leading the Big East in that category. He has also been named Big East Player of the Week once this season following a career high 38 point scoring game in a win over Notre Dame at Mohegan Sun and that same week was named the national player of the week by CBSSports.com.
The 4 year starter from Lansing, Michigan currently ranks 9th on the all-time points scored list at Providence College with 1,790 points which is just 29 shy of Bruce ‘Soup’ Campbell who is 8th on the list. Henton also had 935 career rebounds which ranks him 8th all-time at Providence again behind Soup Campbell and his 949 career boards.
