Providence to Watch 2015 Guard Ricky Council
Rick Lewis from Phenom Hoop Report reported on Twitter Sunday night that Providence would travel to Moravian Prep Monday night to watch 2015 Ricky Council. Sources indicated associate head coach Bob Simon will be the coach to take in Council during Moravian’s practice.
This is likely a familiar name to Providence fans as Council was a name in the summer of 2014 as a potential late guard addition to the 2014-15 roster. Council, a native of Durham, NC, never got an official scholarship offer from Ed Cooley though. Council, who had offers from mid-majors like UNC-Wilmington and Appalachian State, following his senior season, opted to do a postgrad year at Moravian Prep. Since arriving at Moravian Council has been putting up gaudy offensive numbers, including a 53 point game at the Pioneer-Swanny’s Classic on Halloween.

The word among people close to Council’s recruitment has always been that he wants to play in the ACC. A source told me nothing has changed in that regard. However, it doesn’t seem like any ACC schools are making a big push for the 6’4 scorer. Marquette head coach Steve Wojciechowski traveled to Moravian Prep to watch Council on January 8th. There has been no word on an offer being extended from Wojciechowski. Maryland also checked out Council in December but the Terrapins are now in the Big Ten so it remains to be seen if they will be a serious player.
Providence has 4 players signed in the class of 2015 right now but they do have room for 1 more as the roster is currently situated. Council joins other guards in 2015 with interest from Providence, including Kobie Eubanks who recently included the Friars among his list of 10 final schools. I don’t expect Council’s recruitment to be over before the spring of 2015 so it will be interesting to see what happens between now and then with other recruits.

[…] As I reported, associate head coach Bob Simon was scheduled to attend a practice at Moravian Prep in Hickory, NC to specifically watch Council on Monday. Since deciding to do a postgrad year to boost his rcecruiting stock, Council has had some explosive offensive games at Moravian.
