Providence Falls on the Road at Marquette, 75-66

It’s amazing what being on the road will do to a team. Providence came to Milwaukee on a 5 game winning streak where they saw some of their key players playing some of their best basketball of the season. Entering Saturday’s contest against Marquette road teams were 0-6 in Big East play with #6 Villanova falling at Seton Hall in overtime in the game preceding this one.

The Friars were not very sharp early and turnovers were the story early and late. Providence came in averaging 11.9 turnovers/game but the Friars coughed it up 17 times against Marquette. Kris Dunn led the way in that regard with 8 turnovers. Dunn finished with 11 points and 9 assists. LaDontae Henton managed to score over 20 points for the 9th time this season but it wasn’t enough to propel Providence to their first ever win in Milwaukee. Henton finished with 28 points on the afternoon.

Leading Marquette in scoring was Juan Anderson with 18 points but Luke Fischer was a key player for the Golden Eagles. The Indiana transfer finished with 11 points.

Marquette played mainly zone on defense and the Friars seems content to settle for jumpers and they were not connecting. Providence was 23/56 from the field with 9/24 from beyond the arc.

Both Providence and Marquette are now 1-1 in conference play.

Providence continues their road trip with a game at Hinkle Fieldhouse against Butler Tuesday night at 9pm.

An amateurish performance to say the least. Not sure which JV squad was at Marquette today because that was not the PC Big Rast team we’ve seen to date.
