National Polls Update: Week 7

The Friars have righted the ship since the Brown loss by winning their 3rd straight game on Saturday but as I predicted it wouldn’t have enough juice to garner any votes in either poll. Prior to Miami’s horrible loss by 28 points at home against Eastern Kentucky Monday’s game against the Hurricanes on a neutral court in Brooklyn would have been a chance for a top 25 win but the Hurricanes have fallen out of both polls this week.

Providence’s Non-Conference Opponents

Kentucky remains at the top of both polls in week 7 with their 12-0 record. Future opponent Miami (FL) moved from 18th in the AP Poll and 19th in the USA Today Coaches Poll to receiving votes only in both after their bad loss at home against Eastern Kentucky. Notre Dame made a big jump in the AP poll from 21st last week to 16th this week. The Fighting Irish were 21st in the USA Today Coaches poll a week ago and have also moved up in the poll to 16th this week.

The Big East

Villanova stayed at 7th in the both polls and remains the highest-ranked Big East team this season. Moving up again in the AP Poll is St. John’s who went from 20th to 17th this week. The Johnnies were 23rd in the USA Today Coaches Poll  last week and moved up to 19th this week in that poll. Butler has now dropped out of the AP poll entirely and is only receiving 2 votes which ranks them 39th in the AP poll.  After dropping to 25th in the USA Today Coaches poll a week ago the Bulldogs have also fallen out of that poll and are receiving 4 votes, good for 41st. After 2 straight weeks with 3 Big East teams in the top 25 the league now only has 2 members making appearances.

Other Big East teams receiving votes this week are Georgetown (26th in AP Poll and 26th in USA Today Coaches Poll), Seton Hall (38th in AP Poll and 34th in USA Today Coaches Poll).
