Week 5 Polls are Out; Friars Still Receiving Votes

After falling for the second straight game on the road Providence has managed to still be receiving votes in one national poll but not the other.  The Friars got 4 votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll which is good for 44th while Providence went from receiving 56 votes in last week’s AP poll to 0 votes this week in that poll.

Last week’s USA Today Coaches Poll had the Friars receiving 50 votes. This could be a good week for the Friars to make a move back towards the top 25 with 3 games this week against Brown, Rhode Island and Stony Brook. Providence opponent Yale got 1 vote in the AP poll this week after knocking off UConn last week.

The Big East has continued the great non-conference portion of the schedule and the rankings reflect that. Villanova moves from 9th to 7th in both polls while Butler moved from 29th to 19th in the USA Today Coaches Poll and 19th in last week’s AP poll to 15th in that poll. The AP poll also has a third Big East team in the top 25 with St. John’s moving from 39th to 24th in the AP poll. The Johnnies went from 0 votes in the USA Today Coaches poll to receiving 62 votes in that poll, good for 27th.

Other Big East teams receiving votes this week are Georgetown (28th in AP Poll and 30th in USA Today Coaches Poll), Seton Hall (30th in AP Poll and 34th in USA Today Coaches Poll) and Creighton (37th in the AP and USA Today Coaches Polls).
