Friars Offer 2016 Vermont Academy Forward at Hoop Mountain Prep Classic

After a tough Friday night loss at Boston College the Providence coaching staff got out on the recruiting trail. Fortunately they didn’t have to travel too far to see some elite recruits as the Hoop Mountain Prep Classic was being held at nearby St. Andrew’s in Barrington, RI Friday through Sunday last weekend.

Ed Cooley, joined by assistant coach Brian Blaney, were front and center for Vermont Academy’s Sunday game against Commonwealth Academy. While Commonwealth Academy has a number of young, talented players on their roster including some that even attended Providence’s Elite Camp in August, the coaching staff offered 2016 Vermont Academy big man Tyrique Jones after the game.

The Connecticut native runs with Expressions on the grassroots circuit and previously played for Bloomfield (CT) prior to transferring to Vermont Academy. Expressions plays on the Nike EYBL circuit and Jones played 15 games with 9 starts in EYBL play in 2014. He played 18.1 minutes/game and scored 8.1 point/game while shooting 67.1% from the field. He also shot 64.1% from the free throw line and pulled down 5.8 rebounds/game to go along with 1.5 blocks/game.

Brown has offers from Charlotte, Kansas State, Massachusetts, Providence, Rhode Island, Texas Tech and Xavier with interest from Creighton, Indiana, Miami (FL), Nebraska, Oregon and Pittsburgh.
