Providence Interested in 2015 Guard Kobie Eubanks

Kobie Eubanks was originally part of the class of 2014 and he signed a National Letter of Intent with Baylor in the Spring of 2014. In mid-September of 2014 he was declared academically ineligible to play at Baylor and opted to do a prep year and become part of the class of 2015. His prep year is being done at Elev8 Sports Institute in his native Florida.

This past weekend Elev8 played in New Haven, CT at the National Prep Showcase and Eubanks was impressive. He poured in 37 points in a win against New Hampton School. Evan Daniels of Scout.com said “Eubanks had arguably the best performance of the National Prep Showcase” with those 37 points. The Providence staff attended games at the NPS Friday night ahead of their weekend games at Mohegan Sun in nearby Uncasville, CT.

Daniels is also reporting that Providence is among a number of high major programs that called Monday and Tuesday to express interest in Eubanks after he announced his decommitment from Baylor on Monday. According to Daniels the other schools to have reached out so far are Boston College, Connecticut, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri and Oregon.

Eubanks spent his senior season at Our Savior New American in Centereach, NY prior to doing this prep year. The Florida native had played for Each 1 Teach 1 on the grassroots circuit which is the same AAU team that 2015 Providence commit Alex Owens played on.

Here is the ESPN Scouting Report on Eubanks:

Strengths:
The sharpshooter has good size, which allows him to see over most defenders at a young age. He shows confidence and accuracy on his jumper from 15 feet out to behind the arc. He’s an excellent athlete who can attack the basket, take contact with his physically-gifted body and score points from the free throw line. He uses his frame to rebound the ball at a consistent rate.

Weaknesses:
Still young so development of his all around game is a must.

Bottom Line:
With skill development work on his ballhandling and a strong commitment to playing defense, he could be a high-level prospect.
