#pcbb Weekly Recruiting Update 2/21/14

  • Check out the article on 2015 PF from Putnam Science Academy, Mamadou Diarra.
  • PC made an offer over the weekend to 2015 PG Justin Robinson of St. James School in DC. The southpaw transferred there after playing his first 2 seasons of high school ball at Montrose Christian. He also plays for famed AAU squad, Boo Williams, current PC Sophomore Josh Fortune’s former AAU team. Robinson has seen his stock rise from mid-major to possibly high major. PC is his first high major offer and it seems that Cooley and staff have had a way of finding these kinds of players just before their recruitment’s take off. For now, Robinson is likely a backup plan at PG for the 2015 class but he could wind up being a very solid plan B if things don’t work out with Jalen Adams.

  • Scout Friars posted a great article by Kevin San on the push to land guards in 2014. The article, titled PC’S Full Court Press for a Guard, can be found here but a subscription is required.
  • Paschal Chukwu and the Fairfield Prep Stags remained undefeated (19-0) after winning at home against Career last night. Chuwku poured in 21 points in the win and added 11 rebounds and 8 blocked shots despite sitting for nearly 5 minutes in the 2nd half after he picked up his 4th foul. Prep is now 1 win away from a perfect regular season.

  • The latest on JaQuan Lyle is that he has scheduled 3 official visits and “if I take a fifth visit, it will be to Providence.” The visits are set up thus: Oklahoma State Feb 21-23, Kansas Feb 24-25, Memphis March 7-9. Originally, Lyle’s Mom indicated they would try to get to Providence March 3rd or 4th but now that seems to be somewhat in doubt. On Wednesday, Lyle’s Mom told Adam Zagoria that Oregon was going to visit her at their home and then go watch JaQuan play. Dana Altman – copy Ed Cooley much?“My four is Oregon, Oklahoma State, Kansas and Memphis. If I’m not sold on one of those schools, I will take another visit to either Providence or Georgetown.” It’s not looking good for PC in this one. Also, a few people have mentioned that Lyle may end up at a JC next year because he may not be able to qualify. Lots of drama with this recruitment. It should be over in the next few weeks. Lyle plans to make his decision while he is home with his family for Spring Break from March 15th-23rd.
  • For those that haven’t seen this video of a scrimmage at the Friars Elite Camp from last summer, it’s a good watch. Chukwu has a nice dunk early on.
