Providence Out of Running for Worcester Academy’s Kevin Marfo

A report by Friar recruiting insider Jeff Ferrucci surfaced over the weekend that Providence was out of consideration in the race to land Worcester Academy power forward Kevin Marfo. The report indicates that the recruitment is a two-horse race at this point between Boston College and George Washington. A source confirmed these reports to pcbb1917.com on Monday. Marfo has taken official visits to Boston College, Providence and George Washington while also including DePaul and Rhode Island in his final 5.

Marfo was one of Providence’s top power forward recruiting targets in the class of 2016. The New Jersey native transferred to Worcester Academy last summer to repeat his junior year and subsequently ran with BABC on the grassroots circuit. Providence is still chasing Putnam Science Academy power forward Sedee Keita and Keita is Cooley’s top target now that Wenyen Gabriel has committed to Kentucky.

Some other big men names that have been connected to Providence are Brock Betram, Terrell Brown, Rojaye Campbell, Levi Cook, Eddie Ekiyor, Bamba N’Diaye, Jordy Tshimanga and Isaiah Whaley. As of now the only two holding a reported Providence offer of that group are Ekiyor and N’Diaye. Ekiyor has some legal issues and there is a report that he wants to enroll at a school in December or January but won’t be eligible to play until the 2016-17 season. Losing Marfo shouldn’t send Friar fans into a panic as Keita is the key piece to go along with Maliek White in the class of 2016. Keita is scheduled to visit Providence the weekend of October 16th and will be in attendance for the Late Night Madness festivities on October 17th. The Friars are also still in the mix with wing Jalen Johnson who visited Tennessee last weekend.
