Providence Makes Top 10 for 2016 PF Kevin Marfo

Another 2016 recruit has cut his list down to a more manageable number, according to Adam Finkelstein. 2016 power forward Kevin Marfo has a list of 10 schools he is considering though he told pcbb1917.com that he is yet to set any visit dates. Marfo — a 6’8 New Jersey native attending Worcester Academy in Massachusetts — is considering offers from Boston College, DePaul, George Washington, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Providence, St. Joseph, UMass and URI.

Marfo ran with BABC on the Nike EYBL circuit and was one of the surprise players of the Spring and Summer grassroots season. He averaged 11.3 points/game, 8.8 rebounds/game and 1.0 blocks/game in 21 games between the regular season and playoffs. The 2015-16 season will be his second at Worcester Academy under head coach Jamie Sullivan. He transferred in last season and repeated his junior season at the NEPSAC school.

Marfo’s recruitment really picked up in July and he recently told Brian Snow of Scout.com that he will schedule his official visits in September. He also told Snow that “academics are very important. Also I am looking at the alumni of the school.” He is looking for a school where he “can fit in and get a really good degree. Beyond that playing for a coach who can really develop my game is very important.” Ed Cooley is looking to bolster his thin frontcourt and Marfo — and hard-nosed big man — would fit well with Ben Bentil and Quadree Smith. Providence also made a final list for JJ Matthews in the class of 2016 and the final 5 for Wenyen Gabriel.
