Providence to Play in 2016 Emerald Coast Classic

Jason Smith of CommercialAppeal.com is reporting that Providence is one of the teams in the 2016 field of the Emerald Coast Classic to be held in Destin, Florida. Joining the Friars in the event are Iowa, Memphis and Virginia, according to the report.

If the format remains the same as 2015 the first two games will be held on campus sites with the rest of the tournament — the third round and championship — being held at the arena of Northwest Florida State College during the Thanksgiving weekend. There will likely be more teams added to the mix for 2016 as the 2015 field consists of 8 teams in total. The tournament began in 2014 with an inaugural field of Cincinnati, Creighton, Eastern Illinois, Middle Tennessee, North Carolina Central, Northern Arizona, Ole Miss and Southern. The 2015 field is made up of Alabama State, Chattanooga, Chicago State, Illinois, Iowa State, Jacksonville State, UAB and Virginia Tech. The television partner for the Emerald Coast Classic is CBS Sports Network.
