God Shammgod to be Graduate Assistant Next Season for Friars

After weighing his options as his undergraduate time was coming to an end God Shammgod has opted to continue his education at Providence College by enrolling in graduate school. That also allows him to stay on the Friar coaching staff and continue his work with Kris Dunn and the rest of the Friar guards. The news was first reported by John Rooke in his weekly “Thinking Out Loud” column on WEEI.com.

This is welcome news for Friar fans who have been reeling since the shocking news of Paschal Chukwu’s transfer became public last week. There were rumors of Shammgod returning as a graduate assistant going back a couple weeks now but at the time I didn’t buy it. Looks like I should have as Shammgod will continue to coach “for free” while taking classes towards a Masters in counseling. His undergraduate degree is in Leadership Development. As a graduate assistant Shammgod will receive a monthly stipend.

Next up for Friar fans on the agenda is finding a big man or two to fill the void left by Chukwu’s exit. A new name in the mix there is 2015 big man John Carlos Reyes. The Friars are also likely to get a visit from Eastern Illinois graduate transfer Chris Olivier sometime after the current dead period ends on May 29th.
