Tyler Harris Transferring to Auburn for Final Season

Tyler Harris has chosen the school he will spend his final season of eligibility and it has a familiar head coach. Harris committed to Auburn University and Bruce Pearl on Friday, indicating his commitment by sending out a tweet of #WarEagle, the well-known battle-cry at Auburn. Harris visited the campus during the first weekend in May. He also visited Boston College, UConn, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Nebraska and Oklahoma State during his transfer process. The familiarity with Pearl having coached Tyler’s older brother Tobias had to be a large factor in the decision to attend the SEC school.

Harris was a productive player on winning teams at Providence but he still took his share of heat from fans. He started the first year and a half of his time as a Friar but was moved to a 6th man role to provide scoring off the bench during the latter half of last season. In 69 career games in a Friar uniform Harris averaged 10.8 points/game, 4.6 rebounds/game and 1.2 assists/game while shooting 42.8% from the field and 79% from the free throw line.

Harris joins an Auburn program that hasn’t been to the NCAA Tournament since 2003 when the Tigers fell to Syracuse in the Sweet 16. In Pearl’s first season at Auburn the Tigers finished 15-20 (4-14 in SEC play) but made a run in the SEC Tournament by beating Mississippi State, Texas A&M and LSU before falling to Kentucky in the semifinals. Harris graduates on Sunday and will be immediately eligible for his final season of eligibility at Auburn.
