Breaking Down Providence’s NCAA Tournament Opponent: Dayton

After a thrilling finish in the final “First Four” game of the 2015 NCAA Tournament it will be the Dayton Flyers that will take on Providence on Friday night in Columbus. The game will tip off at approximately 9:57pm on truTV. Here’s a quick and dirty look at Dayton.

Dayton

  • Season Record: 26-8
  • RPI: 32
  • Kenpom: 41
  • Leading Scorer: Jordan Sibert – 16.5 ppg
  • Leading Rebounder: Dyshawn Pierre- 8.2 rpg
  • Head Coach: Archie Miller

Dayton used a late comeback to defeat Boise State on their home court in “First Four” action on Wednesday night. The Flyers get their 26th win of the season and they will take a short drive up the ride to Columbus to take on Providence on Friday night.

Dayton is led by senior Jordan Sibert. Sibert dealt with foul trouble against Boise State but made some big plays down the stretch, including the eventual game-winner. Dayton has an eFG% of 52.8 and an Adjusted Offensive Efficiency of 107.2. The eFG% ranks 45th nationally, while the AOE is 71st. Both stats are courtesy of Kenpom.com. Junior Dyshawn Pierre is the team’s leading rebounder and has the 91st-best Defensive Rebounding % in the nation. Dayton doesn’t get on the offensive glass very effectively and rank near the bottom of Division 1 in Offensive Rebounding %. The tallest player that plays regularly on the team is 6’6.

I’ll have a full preview and prediction for Friday’s game on Thursday.
