National Polls Update: Week 11

Providence went 1-1 this week giving St. John’s their first Big East win on Wednesday at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center while denying Creighton their 1st league win in Omaha on Saturday. Last week Providence got 16 votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll and they are getting just 4 votes in that poll this week which ranks them 43rd. The Friars continue getting 17 votes in the AP Poll which is the same as a week ago and is good for 32nd.

The Big East

Villanova moved up one spot this week to 4th in both polls. The Wildcats are 17-1 with their only loss coming at Seton Hall in the Big East opener. The Wildcats remain the highest-ranked Big East team this season and the only one to be ranked in the top 5.

Seton Hall was 21st in both polls last week and have dropped a few spots for the second straight week to 24th in both polls this week.

St. John’s is now 1-4 in the Big East following a win over Providence and a loss to DePaul. Somehow that still is good enough to get a vote in both the AP and USA Today Coaches Polls.

Last week the Georgetown Hoyas were 32nd in the USA Today Coaches Poll while not receiving any votes in the AP Poll. This week the Hoyas are 36th in the USA Today Coaches Poll and back getting 33 votes in the AP Poll which ranks them 29th.

Butler was not receiving any votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll last week they are 39th this week with 5 votes. The Bulldogs were 37th in the AP Poll last week and remain there again this week.

The Big East has 2 teams in the top 25 for the second straight week. No other Big East teams are receiving votes in either poll.

Providence’s Non-Conference Opponents

Kentucky remains at the top of both polls in week 11 with their 17-0 record. The Wildcats had two blowout wins this week after having a couple of close games the previous week.

Miami (FL) took advantage of their opportunity for a big road win in ACC play by beating Duke at Cameron Indoor. The Hurricanes then fell at Notre Dame but that Duke win was good enough to garner 41 votes in the AP Poll and 13 votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll after not receiving any votes last week. Miami is 27th in the AP Poll and 34th in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Notre Dame took care of business last week with a road win at Georgia Tech and a home win over Miami following the Hurricanes’ upset win at Duke. As a result Notre Dame is ranked 8th in the AP Poll this week after being 12th last  week and they move up to 9th in the USA Today Coaches poll after being in the 12th spot in that poll last week.

The Rhode Island Rams got 1 vote in the USA Today Coaches Poll last week but are getting no votes in either poll this week.
