Providence Expresses Interest in 2015 Point Guard

Providence assistant coach Brian Blaney was in attendance at Western New England University for day 2 of the BasketBull Hoop Fest watching Providence target Wenyen Gabriel and his Wilbraham & Monson squad take on IMG Academy. IMG Academy won the game, 79-74, behind 33 points from 2015 point guard Tobias Howard. Howard’s performance impressed Blaney enough that the Friar assistant told the Georgia native he would be in touch.

Howard told me he currently has offers from Gardner Webb, Kennesaw St, Miami (OH), Northeastern and UT-Martin. So far he has visited Miami (OH) and plans to take an unofficial visit to Murray State on December 30th. The 6’0 lead guard runs with Stackhouse Elite on the grassroots circuit which is a team founded and coached by former NBA All-Star Jerry Stackhouse.

Future150.com, a scouting service, lists Howard’s strengths as ball handling, changing pace, defensive rebounding, finishing through contact, high motor and upper body strength. He is a 3-star prospect per 247sports composite national ranking and transferred to IMG Academy this season from North Gwinnett HS in Georgia.
