Providence to Play in Wooden Legacy in 2015, Rest of Field Announced

It was announced Thursday morning that Providence will be one of the team’s in an impressive field for the 2015 Wooden Legacy tournament that will be played in California.

Kevin McNamara of the Providence Journal first reported that Providence would in this tournament back in October but now the final field has been announced. The 2015 field is impressive. The actual matchups haven’t been announced yet but this should result in Providence getting some really good non-conference games on a neutral court.

The 2013 field included Miami (Fl), George Washington, Marquette, Cal State Fullerton, College of Charleston, San Diego State, Creighton and Arizona State. San Diego State would beat Marquette in the tournament finale. The 2014 field which will be played November 27th-30th includes Princeton, UTEP, San Diego, Xavier, Long Beach State, Western Michigan, San Jose State and Washington.

The 2015 field may end up including two teams ranked in the top 10 next season in Arizona and Michigan State. This is another example of Ed Cooley upgrading the non-conference schedule. During his last radio show on November 10th Cooley mentioned that the Friars are booked through 2020 for early season tournaments which will include a tournament in Florida in 2016, Battle of Atlantis in 2017 and the Maui Invitational along with a tournament at Madison Square Garden somewhere mixed in.
