Providence Non-Conference Schedule Update

On Sunday night, the Providence Journal’s Kevin McNamara reported that Ed Cooley is “putting the finishing touches on a schedule “that may be too hard” and features home games against Rhode Island and Massachusetts, a trip to preseason No. 1-ranked Kentucky, a return to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for a game against Miami, and games against Florida State and Notre Dame in the Hall of Fame Tip-off at Mohegan Sun casino.”

This morning Jon Rothstein tweeted that the Miami game will be part of a doubleheader with Manhattan vs. Fordham and will be played on 12/22/14. This confirms a previous report from John Rooke who hinted at this last week.

Let’s take a look at what we know so far:

That puts the Friars at 13 non-conference matchups right now with the possibility that another game could be added with a Big 10 opponent. If this is the schedule that PC goes to battle with next season, it is certainly pretty formidable with the two worst games likely being a result of their campus site opponents for the Naismith Hall of Fame Tipoff – Binghamton and Navy.
